Our apprentices participate in an intensive year-long professional training program that focuses on learning through making. Not only are they making many of the products sold in Dogwood Deli and The Dogwood, they are also re-making their own lives through working, learning, and creating—the three essentials of the program.

The apprentices work in paid positions in the kitchen; attend weekly classes taught by local chefs; and create sandwiches, appetizers, entrees, and desserts for customers. The aim is to create an accessible, hands-on, free culinary institute in Baltimore City for those who are struggling to overcome the odds with the support of a career-focused community.
